Home Schooled on Home Energy Audits!
On May 31st Green Domain spent time with students and parents of the Free Union Homeschoolers Charter School to teach them the ins and outs of going Green!
The Children have been studying the Journey of Energy in their curriculum along with activities from the Kilowatt Ours Project to aid in learning of energy conservation.
Organized by Lorna Wooldridge from the Free Union Homeschoolers, Green Domain®’s LEED Accredited Professional and Certified Green Building Analyst, John Romansky met with the students at a residence in Great Meadows, New Jersey. Romansky demonstrated and discussed the popular topic of sustainability with the children by performing Green Domain®’s GreenAlysis® Home Energy Audit process for a hands-on interactive learning experience. He also taught the children obtainable green initiative practices to tackle within the home for a real world application of conserving energy (such as unplugging unused electrical devices to save power and money).
“They are all well on their way to a sustainable lifestyle and with all of the contagious enthusiasm, will impart the message to others.” said Romansky after completing the auditing process with the children.
Green Domain® was happy to be apart of the children’s educational curriculum and bring green industry knowledge and practices to the Free Union Homeschoolers charter. With the help of others involved with the Free Union Homeschoolers, the students compiled a video of their studies. To see what they learned visit http://www.freeunionschoolhouse.com/energy_story/ . Benefits of Infrared thermography Cameras During Home Energy Audits
Green Domain offers Infrared Imaging Services! Infrared thermography cameras are very useful during energy audits as they can detect missing insulation, roofing, moisture/mold issues, building envelopes, and other weatherization issues.
According to the US department of energy the average family in the Northeast spends about $2,379 dollars a year on utility bills and large portion of that literally goes out the window! Infrared imaging and a pressurization blower door test is the fastest most effective way to detect these leaks.

Energy Assessments are a Year-Round Investment!
Many homeowners are under the impression that Energy Assessments should only be scheduled during the colder months, but contrary to that, Energy Assessments are a year round investment! You can save energy by relying less on your HVAC system all year by air sealing and weather-stripping your home.
Air Sealing is great for Summer’s hot weather. It prevents hot air from penetrating through your attic or basement so your home will feel more comfortable, and your thermostat can be set to a conservative 72 degrees!

Save $$$ & kWh with Recessed LED Light Fixtures
Energy-efficient recessed light fixtures are long-lasting and also use less energy than standard products. Certified recessed light fixtures use 75% less energy than standard light fixtures. They are available for indoor and outdoor use, and some are equipped with dimmer switches.
But remember, for maximum efficiency, use LED lights in your recessed light fixtures and make sure they are properly installed. Ceiling recessed lights may increase air leakage from attic spaces, which leads to increased heating and cooling costs.

Obama January 2011 State of The Union – Energy and Green Jobs Promises!
The Obama administration has been promising “$150 billion in the next 10 years” in government spending for clean energy ever since the president was a candidate running for office back in 2008. Luckily this is still a main focus for President Obama. The President expressed his intent to support programs that will help our nation pursue cleaner sources of energy and thus leading to thousands of new jobs, just a few weeks ago in his State of The Union speech.
Experts believe this President is one of the most progressive and aggressive in terms of pushing out a clean energy agenda. His goal is to devote $15 billion dollars in clean energy investment each year, stating that this is both an environmental and economical investment.
He again reaffirmed the “weaning America off its foreign oil dependence and shifting to renewable sources” reminding us of the recent BP Oil Spill, and he spoke about GE’s efforts "investing in innovation, building a clean energy center, an advanced battery manufacturing plant, and other state-of-the-art facilities in Schenectady that are resulting in hundreds of new American jobs and contributing to America's global economic leadership" in part due to the recent appointment of General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt - Head of the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.
No matter how you look at it, this is a “win-win” for Americans, since President Obama’s continuous focus, devotion and work towards clean energy will help both the employment and environmental problems we are currently facing.
